Dr. Yunmei Zhao obtained a Bachelor of Medicine degree from the College of Chinese Medicine in Capital Medical University in Beijing, China in 1986. Upon graduation, she worked at the prestigious Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for over fifteen years, which is a state-of-the-art traditional Chinese medicine hospital with over 6000 daily visits and more than twenty national level experts, and also has its own unique traditional medicine remedies. While working as a resident, Dr. Zhao rotated through the departments of internal medicine, gynecology, general surgery, acupuncture, and dermatology and studies under the well-known traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) experts in various departments. This experience gave her a solid foundation in all fields of TCM and has enabled her to effectively use Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture to treat many kinds of diseases. After residency, she specialized in dermatology and was promoted to be the attending physician because of her outstanding clinical research involvement and expertise in combining Western and Chinese medicine for effective treatment. While working at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dr. Zhao treated over 70,000 patients and taught countless intern physicians. At the same time, her clinical research on the difficult and complicated dermatological disease such as eczema, psoriasis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and Behcet's disease had won her the second prize in the Science & Technology Progress Award given by the Beijing municipal government and the first prize in the Science and Technology Achievement Award given by the Beijing Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
After arriving in Canada, Dr. Zhao started Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic in 2008. She evaluated the physique and dietary habits of patients in North America and adjusted her remedies accordingly to better respond to the patients' conditions and preferences. Having countless successes of treating pain, internal medicine symptoms, and common gynecological diseases with acupuncture and herbal medicine, Dr. Zhao has adopted her own TCM methodology that is especially suitable towards North American patients. Now Dr. Zhao is a member of the Canadian Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (CAATCM). She also holds the diploma in Oriental Medicine issued by National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and the acupuncturist license issued by the state of Michigan.
