$75.00 Initial Evaluation / $55.00 Follow-Up Visit

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used forms of medicine in the world. Originating in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture is currently one of the most thoroughly researched, practiced, and respected forms of medical treatment available anywhere.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, your overall health is determined by the quality of the Qi (energy) flow through the natural pathways of your body (meridians). Acupuncture uses a variety of techniques, including placing very thin sterile needles into specific points on the body, to stimulate and improve your Qi flow. The many benefits of acupuncture include:

  • Pain reduction
  • Stress and tension relief
  • Increased energy levels
  • Better digestion
  • Relief from bad habits and addictions
  • Greater sense of overall health and well-being

Initial Visit appointments ($75.00) usually last about an hour, including treatment:  In this appointment, I will ask you to fill out a detailed health history form.  I will also ask a series of questions about your health.  The categories of questioning include:  Hot/cold sensations; sweating tendencies; thirst; appetite; bowel movements; urination; sleep patterns; energy level; emotional tendencies (frustration, worry, anxiety, weeping, depression, etc); any pain you may be experiencing; and for women, your menstrual cycles.  I will also ask to look at your tongue, and feel your pulse on both arms.  This allows me to get a wider understanding of your health picture which aids in diagnosis of the specific problem.  I will create a treatment plan which often includes a combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbs.  Often it is necessary to have a series of treatments to ensure a stabilization of the condition.  You could expect as few as four treatments for a simple condition; six treatments for a complicated diagnosis; nine treatments for a chronic condition that has been manifesting for many years.  There are times where a series of treatments over several months is necessary for particularly complicated or chronic cases.  Monthly Maintenance visits are sometimes recommended for chronic issues or to help maintain general health.

After establishing a diagnosis according to Chinese Medical theories and designing a treatment plan, I will most likely give you an acupuncture treatment and possibly an herbal formula to take between appointments.

I use sterile, single-use stainless steel needles, which I immediately dispose of in a sharps container.  I have a gentle hand, and most of the needles will not be terribly sensitive, if they are, they usually settle quickly.  I watch and listen carefully for feedback, and if you are uncomfortable in any way, I will respond accordingly.

If you have a needle-phobia, we could try one needle insertion and see how you feel about it.  If you are absolutely unable to tolerate needles, or just can't bring yourself to try them, there are a number of alternative methods that could still be effective.

Follow-up Visits ($55.00) usually last about 35 to 45 minutes:  Since I will already know your health picture, diagnosis and treatment plan, follow-up visits will consist of a few questions to chart your progress.  Then I will give the treatment, making subtle changes according to your response to previous treatments.  As always, I am very conscientious of your comfort level and will respond to your feedback

Chinese Herbology

$75.00 per Initial Visit / $55.00 per Follow-up Visit  (often included in acupuncture visit)

Chinese herbal medicine is a tradition that is well over 2,000 years old, which uses naturally occurring substances — including herbs — to enhance one's health and vitality. The foundation of this approach is to support the body's natural self-healing mechanisms and abilities.  The philosophy is to diagnose and treat the underlying cause of a condition rather than mask symptoms indefinitely.

Since each patient has different needs, I carefully select a formula that will synergistically blend together to achieve optimal results for your unique situation. I prescribe high-quality, professional-grade herbal formulas that are available only to qualified professionals.

A note about self-prescribing herbs.  There can be unintended consequences from taking herbs that you heard were good for pain or depression, etc.  For example, if you are menopausal and have hot flashes, and you heard cinnamon is good for painful joints, this could aggravate the heat signs associated with hot flashes, because cinnamon can be a strongly warming herb.  There are numerous conditions that can be aggravated by using supplements.  I recommend consulting a person who has had extensive training in herbology so they can assess your constitutional and current health picture, and then recommend the appropriate herbs for you.

Cost is included in Initial Visit or Follow-up Visit

Cupping has been a part of Chinese Medicine for over 2,500 years. It relieves aches and pains, improves circulation, and also helps with respiratory and digestive issues. I simply place a specialized "cup" onto specific points on your body, and then use suction to draw your skin up into the cups. It doesn't hurt — it simply draws fresh blood to that area of your body, which facilitates the cleansing and strengthening of your Qi (energy). The end result is a greater overall sense of health and well-being.

When the skin has had a cupping treatment, there can be discoloration similar to a bruise.  This is is simply due to increased circulation to the area and it often normalizes in a few days.

$75.00 per Hour Session

Acupressure is based on one the most ancient principles of healing — that simply touching a specific point on the body will release stress and improve health in the body. In an acupressure session, I apply firm pressure directly to these "points" on your body, which relieves your muscle tension and improves your circulation. This simple and powerful technique has been shown to very effective in treating headaches, backaches, and even insomnia.

This can be done for a specific problem, or it can be a part of a general health-maintenance therapeutic massage.
